Album
re:awakening is nothing short of a breath of life for the viola/piano ensemble.
This album’s purpose is to explore new sounds, textures, and layers for the viola and piano within a wide array of acoustic, electronic, and even recorded natural sounds. The viola is incredibly expressive and has the ability to manipulate its tone without any electronic engineering. Combining the viola with the nearly unlimited sounds of the piano (prepared, acoustic, and amplified) will be a revelation of tone colors for the medium.
Works will blend styles of jazz, new age, electropop, aleatory, and tonal classical music.
Current works to be placed on the album include: a commission from Kansas City-based multi-genre composer Laura Whitney-Johnson; an arrangement/electronic remix of jazz trombonist and composer Ryan Heinlein’s work Welcome to April; and violist Rebecca Clarke’s Morpheus. To support the release of the album, the original works featured would be released as videos.
